Sequin Tassel Fabric or Fringe Trim? A Sample and Buying Guide

Zhijin / All4LacePublished
All4Lace narrow trim sample. The discs and loops are visible. Check their movement on the sample.

For a whole skirt panel or bodice, start with decorated fabric of usable width. For a line around a hem, cuff or opening, start with a trim that has a continuous sewing edge. Both can be sold by the yard. Find out what one yard contains before comparing prices.

Check whether sequin fringe comes as fabric or trim

Ask for a photo of the opened material showing both edges. A wide ground lets you place several pattern pieces. A separate strip follows one sewing line. OneYard’s embroidered mesh and Hai Trim’s tape-backed fringe are examples from their own ranges.

All4Lace’s A2 fabric photo shows fine strands beside round sequins. The gold- and silver-coloured trim photo shows a disc row beside a looped edge. Use them to shortlist an appearance, then verify construction on a physical sample.

Check which sequin strands hang freely against the lining

Hang the sample by the edge that will be supported in the garment. Look from the front and back, then move it gently against the intended lining. Note which threads or discs swing and whether they catch.

Measure the free drop from its attachment line to its tip. Record the sewing-band width separately. For fabric, mark the hanging direction on the pattern piece.

Test a seam in sequin fabric or a curve in fringe trim

For a panel, sew the intended seam with the actual lining and check whether the sequin rows meet across it. For a trim, sew the actual curve or corner with a join and a cut end.

Check the exposed decoration after stitching. Agree where a join can sit and how its ends will be secured. Change one variable at a time if the sample pulls or catches.

Specify fabric width or trim drop in the sequin quote

For fabric, request usable decorated width, motif direction and continuous length in the chosen colour lot. For trim, request the sewing-band width, the visible drop after stitching and the uninterrupted length needed at each position.

Put the item reference, colour, quantity and sales unit on each request. Ask for composition and measurements tied to the sample. Approve the sewn trial before calculating the bulk quantity.

Compare the two buying routes

Send All4Lace a full-width photo, a close-up of the attachment edge and a sketch of the panel or seam. Include the sample reference and the longest piece you need without a join.
